When I first saw this program, it was written by Matt Marshall and marketed at “tall, skinny” guys. Now it is written by Matt Murphy and marketed at all hardgainers.
I understand trying to go after a larger market but why the name change?
Did he get married? Or decide to go hard after the Irish market? (That was a joke but, interestingly, I checked and he does seem to be advertising more heavily on Ireland’s Google.ie)
The author’s true name really doesn’t matter, the content of the program does…
The diet portion of “Maximum Muscle in Minimum Time”comes first and Marshall-Murphy does a good job of emphasizing the importance of eating big.
However, in my opinion, he doesn’t come through with a solid plan. The plan he presents has you just focusing on your protein intake and hoping the rest falls into place. This is an over-emphasis on protein and, in my experience, the “protein is everything” mentality this dieting method inspires creates a lot of frustration for those seeking mass gain.
My experience tells me it is much wiser to focus on your total calorie intake first and foremost. Reasonable protein intake is a good thing, but it really does nothing for you when you aren’t getting enough overall calories to create the caloric surplus you need to add muscle weight.
The workout section presents a reasonable approach. There are some twists in there beyond the standard approach and most seem well-reasoned. There is some good stuff on “power stretching.” But like in most places in the book, I thought Marshall-Murphy stopped short of giving the beginner what they needed and deserved to fully understand and implement his ideas.
The supplement advice is reasonable though I think his creatine recommendations are excessive. The bonus reports included really aren’t much. The lifetime email support is very impressive (as long as the author doesn’t change his name again and this time disappear altogether).
2 of 5 Stars:The questionable strategy and lack of detail leaves me less-than-enthusiastic. But, “Maximum Muscle in Minimum Time” is a decent and well-organized program.
