I expected to really like this program. I had read many of Shawn Lebrun’s articles and found him to be very knowledgeable on the subject matter as well as a good writer.
Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed (as I was with another one of his programs I reviewed – My Review of Simple Steps to Get Huge and Shredded)
The basics are there. Lebrun does an adequate job of going through the diet and training approach necessary to gain significant muscle weight. His weight gain prescription is right on the money in my opinion.
It’s just that when I got to the end of the e-book, I found myself asking, “Is that it?”
Shawn Lebrun preaches at readers to keep it simple. There is certainly value in this philosophy. Undoubtedly, a major cause for the frustration many trainers experience lies in their attempts to “over-complicate” the muscle-building process. It is definitely getting the fundamentals down that will be responsible for the vast majority of your bodybuilding success.
But if I pay an expert to help me achieve top results, I expect him to give me all he’s got. I want the details that will make me better prepared than the average guy to quickly accomplish my goals. I didn’t find that in “7 Things You Must Do To Gain Weight“.
In the workout part of the program, Lebrun offers the trainers many options on exercises. This may seem desirable or a positive at first glance. However, I see enough opportunities for the trainer to end up with a program that is within the parameters that Lebrun lays out but is severely lacking in muscle building potential.
There is a significant difference (in terms of muscle building value) between including lat-bar pulldowns or pull-ups in your routines. This program acts as if there isn’t.
While Lebrun adequately pushes the correct mass gain fundamentals, he seems to stop there. Other training aspects that can play significant roles in one’s ability to gain quality weight (post-workout nutrition for example) aren’t covered at all.
2 of 5 Stars: While I don’t find “7 Things You Must Do To Gain Weight” to be one of the top programs for those looking to gain weight, Shawn Lebrun is a credible and capable teacher. This program can be enough to get a beginning trainer started in the right direction.
